Two Polytechnic Students Dies In Truck Crash, Hours To Their Final Exam

CURSORY : Akwa Ibom state Poly weeps over the death of two of their female students, who died in a truck accident before their final exam.

Two students of Akwa Ibom state Poly have been crushed to death by a truck, a few kilometers away from the school premises.

The incident took place near the junction of Ikot Inyang village, along Aba Road in Ikot Ekpene local government area.

The deceased girls, Abasifreke Okon, from Ikot Abasi and Irene Edwin from Ibesikpo Asutan local government area, were besties.

The girls were both in ND2 in the department of science laboratory, they were often referred to as besties and inseparable twins’.

They were preparing for their upcoming examination which was to hold on 10th of January, but they died instantly when the accident happened.

The exam was meant to be their final exam, haven completed their ND program.

It was said that the driver who killed the girls drove recklessly and lost control of this vehicle, and eventually crashed into the two female students.

It was gathered that due to the incident, the school management has postponed the examination till further notice.

During the evacuation of the deceased from the mortuary, their classmates wept profusely as they were still in shock at the sudden death of their colleagues.

According to The Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Matthew Olonisaye, he said the death of the students was as a result of reckless driving on the part of the driver, and his inability to adhere to the rules of driving.

Olonisaye urged drivers to prioritize their vehicle maintenance as he said that accident are caused, they don’t just happen suddenly.

“It actually happened; it’s because of loss of control by the driver. We advise drivers to abide with the rules that guide the usage of the road, they should not be in a hurry.

“Drivers should also make vehicle maintenance a priority, for any life lost cannot come back. An accident does not just happen; it is caused.

“I commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives,” he stated.
