Abel Tau is a Soshanguve-born politician. He served as the MMC for Human Settlements in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
His membership got terminated following allegations of sexual misconduct. He served as a senior member of the political party Action SA.
Tau quit being the Democratic Alliance regional leader to join The People’s Dialogue. He has served as the Tshwane MMC of Utility Services and the DA Regional Chairperson. Abel Tau also served as the Acting Mayor of Tshwane.

Early Life and Education
Abel Tau was born in Soshanguve, Gauteng, South Africa. He obtained a diploma in operations management.
Abel Tau is a politician and has served in various capacities. Before joining politics, he was a qualified Electrical Diesel Fitter for Transnet.
His political interest sprung up after he witnessed the state of affairs in State-Owned Entities. He served as the MMC for Human Settlements in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
Tau was a councilor for the Democratic Alliance in the City of Tswana and served as the party’s regional chairperson. He quit the position in 2020 after he left the party for The People’s Dialogue.
Mashaba announced his resignation and praised him for not going after political positions but joining the party as an ordinary member.
While Abel was a member of the Democratic Alliance, he held several notable positions – MMC for Utility Services and an acting mayor.
Tau was the ActionSA’s candidate for the mayoral race for the City of Tshwane during the 2021 Local Government elections.
On November 23, 2021, he was sworn in as a councilor for ActionSA in the City of Tshwane at the City’s inaugural council meeting.
On December 14, 2021, Randall Williams appointed him the MMC of Housing and Human settlements. He was ActionSA’s caucus leader in the Tshwane council.
ActionSA decided to terminate Tshwane Mayoral Committee member Abel Tau following claims of sexual misconduct and sexual assault of his friend’s wife.
Tau had denied these allegations and asked the party’s senate to place him under precautionary suspension pending investigations.
